Contract Brewing

Contract brewing has advantages for both the contractor and the contractee.  However, for this relationship to be successful both are responsible for making sure they are the right match for each other.

At Pringle-Scott we have a wide range of experience having worked with both contractees and contract brewers.  We rely on checklists that we have found to be effective in ensuring the best outcomes.  For example, consider the following.

Contractee

  • what size batches meet your needs
  • what are your quality standards
  • how will you manage your yeast if you are using your own strain
  • will you supply the ingredients or expect the contractor to aquire
  • do you have a detailed process steps documented
  • what type primary and secondary packages do you need
  • how will the product be stabilized
  • should the contractor be GFSI or SQF certified
  • what concesions are you willing to make

Contract brewer

  • can the product be produced with the current equipment
  • does the contractee have a detailed processing document and does it make sense
  • will the contactee order the supplies needed
  • are the ingredients batches tracable; do they come with a COA
  • what are the communication channels
  • how and when will the contractee be charged
  • storage and shipping finished package
  • who will be responsible for out-of-spec product
